So I caved. I just had to try another beauty box even after my bad experience with Glossybox, I decided that Birchbox were the best way to go as I love the fact they have themed boxes each month instead of sending any old products!

Embrace Matcha Green Tea

I absolutely love green tea - but I don't drink it anywhere near enough of it as I would like! So I'm very excited to make myself a cup very soon.

Activbod Feel Great Shower Concentrate 

I love how refreshing this smells! I love bodywashes that smell so zingy, as they really do wake you up. I reckon this would be perfect for post work out (I really need to start my Gym membership up again, whoops)

Shaveworks The Cool Fix

This is for ingrown hairs, razor buns and redness from shaving. Not a product I would have thought to pick up for myself but I'm excited to try it all the same. I know when I shave my legs in a rush it really isn't kind to my skin so I will definitely use this next time I'm in a rush.

Ren Clean Skincare - Glycolatic Renewal Mask

I'm not a big facemask user, but I am excited to try this one. It meant to exfoliate your skin leaving you with a radiant glow.

Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle Leave-in Conditioner

This has been a little life saver, my hair gets so so tangled overnight and I always wake up with the most unmanageable bed hair! It also smells AMAZING. I'm definitely going to end up buying the full sized one very soon.

Stila Lip Glaze

Last but not least is this little beauty, it's full sized! I love how shimmery it makes my lips, the staying power and the packaging! You simply twist the top and it pumps out the lip glaze onto the brush, I love it.

Overall I am very happy with this box and I can't wait for the February box! Although I'm so gutted I didn't get the Phillip Kingsley Conditioner quite a few other bloggers received! Did you get this January's Birchbox?

Review of: Benefit Boi-ing Concealer

I've gone a little Benefit crazy the past month or so, but let's be honest - who can blame me? Some of their products are just complete must-haves to everyone's makeup collection, such as this little concealer.

I normally find that concealers tend to be too cakey or too light. When they're too cakey it's obvious that you've tried to cover a certain part of your face, meaning it needs to be blended out to reduce the obvious cakeyness... But then that reduces the coverage and the whole point of a concealer. But then if it's too light it just acts like a foundation and doesn't cover much more than a foundation would've done. So it's quite a difficult task to find the perfect balance in a concealer, I can honestly say I've never re-bought the same concealer twice.

But I've finally got round to buying my first high-end concealer and considering that Benefit have never let me down in the past I decided to go with them and I've got to be honest, this is just as good as I was expecting it to be. There's a reason they have 'Industrial Strength Concealer' printed on the packaging - because it really is! It's thick enough to cover imperfections, yet not look like you've caked yourself or so light that it barely makes a difference. I use it mainly under my eyes especially when I've got to tackle a day on very little sleep.

If you're wondering if it's worth the money as it's quite a small product it really is. I've actually owned this concealer for about 2 months now and used it almost everytime I've done my makeup since and I've barely make a dent in it!! Only using a little bit of this concealer goes a long way as it's so creamy and pigmented. I got shade 2 which a light/medium shade and it matches my skin tone perfectly.

Then the packaging is pretty simple for a Benefit product but it's easy-to-use, compact and travel friendly so it works out pretty well.

Review of: Bleach London Reincarnation Mask

I'll be completely honest with you, I haven't been very nice to my hair over the years. I have bleached and dyed my hair countless times - I've been red, purple, lilac, maroon, blue, pink, blonde, ginger, black, brunette, dip dye, highlights... You name it, I've had it. All those years of colouring have taken its toll, so I'm always on the look out for conditioning products as my hair is very thirsty, so this is where this product comes in.

Bleach London are well know for their crazy hair colours, but to get crazy coloured hair you'll often need to lighten your hair by bleaching - which is never kind to anybody's hair. So I had a lot of faith in this product before I'd even bought it, the box even states to improve hairs elasticity (which anyone with damaged hair literally needs).

The mask says to be used pre-shampoo, so you simply dampen your hair then rub the mask through leaving it on for 10-20 minutes before jumping in the shower and washing like normal. It also says you can wrap a warm towel around your hair if you want to increase the conditioning effects, so I've also just relaxed in the bath with the towel wrapped around. I actually skip shampooing all together and use the mask on its own to boost the conditioning effect as well (being un-naturally blonde = v. thirsty hair).

I honestly am not lying to you when I say this is my new holy grail product as it works MIRACLES (and trust me, I've tried a lot of conditioning products in my day). From the first time I used it I could tell the difference and now I'm using it once a week to give my hair that nourishing treat it needs. My hair has honestly been in a rut the past year and has been the same length for what feels like forever, so fingers crossed this works in the long run and helps my hair grow out!

The Porefessional vs. Baby Skin

I finally got around to buying myself the Baby Skin pore erasing primer (late to the craze - I know), I've also had this Porefessional mini floating around my makeup bags for quite some time... So my first thoughts were to compare them both as they both state to do similar things, but that leaves the question - which one is better, high street or high end?

Both primers have this gel-like silicone texture to them, the most noticeable difference here is that the Porefessional is skin coloured whilst Baby Skin is clear, proving that Baby Skin isn't necessarily a dupe product, they just offer the same results. 

When it comes to minimizing my pores there isn't a clear winner at first, both primers clearly do their job however I feel that due to the Porefessional being skin coloured it just appears to minimize pores more than Baby Skin... But once my foundation is applied you cannot tell the difference.

I also realised that Baby Skin claims to be an 'instant pore eraser' (which lets be honest, having 0 pores would look weird on anybody) where as the Porefessional states to simply 'minimize the appearance of pores'. Neither product 'erases' pores completely, they just help reduce the appearance - which is to be expected, meaning that Benefit give a much more realistic outlook of their product compared to Maybelline.

In terms of greasiness, Baby Skin is definitely the most greasy whereas the Porefessional has quite a dry, silky texture. I have normal/dry skin so Baby Skin works well on me, however if you have oily skin I can imagine it wouldn't work too well... The greasiness however is only in it's texture, I've had no problems when applying my makeup on top afterwards.

Overall I definitely think that Benefit's Porefessional is the better quality primer, however I actually really liked Baby Skin as it reduces pores just as much as the Porefessional does - even though it isn't skin coloured I'll be applying foundation over the top so I don't notice a difference.

Makeup Revolution: Protection Palette*

I'm sure most of you know that I have this massive, undying love for Makeup Revolution, there seems to always be a product of theirs that I'm just dying to get my hands on. Their new protection palette was one of them and I was lucky enough to get my hands on one!

The best thing about this palette is the fact it offers so much! You have concealers in three different shades, powder, bronzer, blush and a highlighter. It's pretty much an on-the-go contouring kit.. does your Kardashian contour fade throughout the day? Just pull this out of your bag and top it up! The palette eliminates the need to carry so many different makeup products in your bag just for topping up, which I'm totally guilty for as I always have a makeup bag on me.... Opps

You can purchase the palette in one of 4 shades to fit your skin tone, meaning you'll readily have 5 different products put together all in the right shades for you, I was sent the light/medium palette and each product matches with my skin tone perfectly!

As always the pigmentation is fab on everything, you really don't need to use much to make a difference! Just pull the palette out and use your fingers, gently applying them to your face... Did I mention it also comes with a massive mirror? So you don't even need to nip to the toilet for a mirror, so so so handy.

My favourite thing about the palette has to be the highlighter but I think that's just me being a little biased (total highlighter junkie over here), I also love just how it sticks to it's name of being 'protective' as it definitely covers most of your makeup needs, protecting you from most beauty blunders throughout the day! I know I always like a good concealer and highlighter touch up and this palette overs me both of them... what isn't to love?

So that's another amazing product under Makeup Revs belts, I really can't wait to see the release of new products in the future as they are unstoppable! Have you seen their new brushes? I've definitely got to get my hands on some of those to add to my collection.

How to: SEO

'SEO' three letters that look very intimidating at first, but are in-fact one of the most useful tools in blogging. It stands for 'search engine optimisation', so basically improving your Google rankings without paying for it, therefore hopefully improving your blogs traffic. 

Google judges a website by 4 things; relevance, popularity, trustworthiness and page rankings.

1. Relevance – I often do product reviews on my blog, a good example is my 'Review of: L'oreal Blonde Legends', as before I bought a box I couldn't find a review anywhere online, so I took advantage of that and reviewed it myself. It comes up on the first page of Google due to it being the most relevant review (after the shop links) and is one of my most popular posts to date. 

2. Popularity – Google looks at number of visits and how many people link to your blog to judge your blogs popularity. For example I was at the bottom of page 2 on Google when I first started searching 'All That Shimmers' but as my blog is growing, so is my Google ranking as I'm now at the top of page 2 and almost on the first page, so I should be one the first page soon (touch wood!).

3. Trustworthiness – An obvious trustworthy factor is the age of your blog, so if you've been posting under the same URL for a long period of time Google will favor you over newer blogs. Also the trustworthiness of domains linking to your blog help increase your trustworthiness, sort of like when you get a recommendation from a friend about someone who runs a service that would benefit you (like a hair dressers). Even simply having people share your links on social networks increases your trustworthiness, but not spamming of course.

4. Page Rank – Page Rankings are basically mixture of both your blogs popularity and trustworthiness. I found it's like a cycle, the more popular your blog is, the higher your trustworthiness will be and the higher your trustworthiness, the higher your page ranking will be which will increase your blogs popularity and so on.

10 things that you can do:

1. Name posts well
For example, a recent review I did was titled 'Review of: Urban Decay Naked 2 Basics', bit boring, but it's straight to the point and is what is most likely to be searched on Google. Just think about what you would personally search in Google, I know I often use the terms 'how to' and 'review of' etc.

2. Name images well
When I save my images I often include 'All That Shimmers' plus a relevant description of what is in the photograph. For example in my Urban Decay Basics review I named my main image 'urban decay naked 2 naked2 basics review all that shimmers' in consideration of what people might search.

3. ALT Tags

You can also use an ALT tag for your pictures, which is basically just an alternative description of your image which is crawled by search engines and can be read out for the blind. To create an ALT tag all you need to do (on Blogger) is left click your uploaded image and the below will appear.

Then you select 'properties' and enter in whatever you like, keeping it relevant. So for this post I named it 'How to: SEO' after the post title in 'Title Text', but that's optional it's the 'ALT text' we're interested in here, where I wrote possible search entries.

4. Keyword Density

This one is pretty straight forward, basically the product or topics keywords needs to appear a good few times in a post, such as the product name and what it is. This is very simple but remember to keep it natural or your post will lack in quality therefore losing you readers in the long run anyway.

5. Meta Tags

A meta tag is what you see underneath your blogs URL when it's searched for in Google. Below is my meta description, which you can also set by going into Settings > Search preferences, then you'll see something similar to mine. You'll need to enable search descriptions then you're good to go. Make sure your descriptions keywords are relevant to your blog, like I have used 'beauty blog' so if someone clicked on my page they would know before hand that it's a beauty blog.

6. Search Descriptions 

Very similar to number 5, but this is for each individual post... I'm guilty for not using this much as I should, but I don't think many people know about it. When you have a draft open in Blogger you will always see 'Post Settings' to the right, once you have enabled 'Search Descriptions' from number 5 you'll get an option called 'Search Description' where you can write a meta description for each post instead of Google just automatically showing what you have written in your post, again use relevant keywords to your post that people may search.

7. In-blog Linking

Link to yourself or others, literally link anything as long as it's relevant! This helps give your blog trustworthiness and helps the Google crawlers find your blog. When linking to yourself and referring to past posts people may click on those links therefore giving you a little bit more traffic to your other pages, adding to your blogs popularity. For example in this post I've mentioned both my 'Review of: Urban Decay Naked 2 Basics' and my 'Review of: L'oreal Blonde Legends' and I've linked the both of them. This is why widgets like 'Linkwithin' are important to install on to your blog to people see it and think 'oh I haven't read this post *click*'.

8. External Linking

You can also put your link onto other sites other than your own, like leaving your blog URL when signing off a comment on someone else's blog, having it in your Twitter or Instagram descriptions, etc. I really recommend pinning your images to Pinterest, I've recently started a board solely for my blog where I pin the image and leave my blogs URL. Search engines can see how many sites link to your blog, so the more sites linking to you the more popular your blog is considered therefore improving your ranking. But don't go spamming your link, this can do the total opposite to what you intended and you can be penalised by Google. 

9. Guest posting/Blogrolls

A lot of bloggers often guest post on each others blogs, or include each other in blogrolls as they're both good marketing tools, hopefully gaining you both new readers from each others blogs. This is already really good on it's own due to getting your readers up, but it also has the SEO benefit of 'external linking' and increasing your popularity and trustworthiness.

10. No copy and pasting

Admit it, we've all had a cheeky Google when reviewing a product to see what others have said about it. That's all well and good but never copy what someone has written, not word-for-word anyway as it will flag up in the Google crawlers and your post will be deemed a 'duplicate' page. Even if you copy your own work to another blog (i.e guest posting) you can write about the subject again of course, but you will have to re-word it as it will still be a duplicate.

I must stress that SEO takes time and won't work instantly but in the long run it will be more than worth it, also I'm no expert on the topic, I'm just sharing what I do know to hopefully help some of you guys out! Let me know in the comments any of your SEO tips, I'd love to hear them!

Review of: Urban Decay Naked 2 Basics

When I got my Naked 2 palette I absolutely fell in love with it - there are so many shimmery eyeshadows to play with, what isn't to love? But I also fell in love with 'tease' which is a matte brown shade, so seeing the Naked 2 basics containing solely matte shades I just had to make it mine!

Skimp, Stark, Frisk, Cover, Primal & Undone

The palette has 6 matte shades - 2 being nude shades and the other 4 are brown shades, so it definitely lives up to it's name of 'basics' but I love a basic eye just as much as a bold eye! I normally find with matte shades that the pigmentation isn't as great, or there's a lot of fall out - but Urban Decay never fail to please and all 6 have amazing pigmentation and are even a little buttery. 

All of the shades are definitely perfect for everyday wear without going overboard on the shimmer, which I am quite guilty of doing sometimes... I woke up like this. *sassy emoji*

However not only are the shades perfect for everyday use - but so is the packaging. I was so surprised when it had been delivered, I wasn't expecting it to be so small! But the palette being compact makes it so much easier to carry in your bag compared to the larger Naked palettes. 

But unless you're travelling you most likely won't need to take this palette out with you anyway as the staying power is incredible - even without primer! My arm needed a good scrub after swatching so imagine it with primer!

As much as I do love this palette I have avoided the first Naked Basics palette due to it only having 2 matte brown shades and 4 nude shades, so I wouldn't have gotten much use out of it - but I know I will definitely use every shade in this palette!

Overall, this palette has definitely made me fall in love with the Naked range all over again, they're my favorite range of eyeshadows (ever) and are all worth every penny!

Confessions of a Beauty Blogger

As a beauty blogger, I have gained quite a few bad habits that I'm sure a few of you probably share with me. So I thought I should confess all of mine to see if you can relate to my sins! (I really hope you can...)

• Going makeup shopping, I look at makeup thinking 'I can probably write about this'
• Justifying all my makeup purchases by saying 'it's for the blog'
• When I get new makeup I tend to not use it until I've photographed it
• I often write posts and never share them due to shear laziness of not taking the photos
• When I write posts I tend to have my (sometimes greasy) hair scraped back, whilst wearing my boyfriends joggers #glamorous
• I hoard makeup, even if it's been completely used up. I had a clear out the other day to get rid of all the empties that I just hadn't parted with... Particularly nail varnishes. 
• When I see blog sales I console my makeup and tell it I'd never leave its side... total makeup hoarder here  #sorrynotsorry
•  I often care more about what my face looks like more than my clothes and hair
• When I was a kid I used to say 'I'll never wear makeup' now look at me...
• I'm not as 'neat' as I may appear in my photographs, I clean my room (or an area of it) to hide the fact I'm a bit of a messy slob
• After reading other peoples blogs I have gone and ordered products just because they said it was good (see bloggers are good advertisers!)
•  I own SO many eyeshadow palettes... And I'm still AWFUL at blending!
• ...nor can I apply false eye lashes!?
• I've recorded and edited a YouTube video but have been too scared to upload it
• Photoshop. I tend to Photoshop my pictures - if I notice a spec of dust it will bug me and I have to edit it out (but I think that's just me being weird)
• I have spent too much of my student loan on makeup...It' so pretty though, so it's fine.
• My family don't seem to understand what a 'blog' is 100%, when I told my Nan I'm expecting a PR sample through the post to review for my blog she asked if a blog was like 'the Facebook'... Facepalm. (I live with my Nan btw - fun fact for you all)
• I cannot for the life of me paint my nails.. I now get them done in a nail bar every few weeks as I refuse to make such a mess of them anymore.

So there are all of my confessions, I would love to know if any of you have sinned with me!

Makeup Revolution: Radiant Lights Highlighters*

Unless you have been living under a rock for the past year, I'm sure you have all heard of Makeup Revolution. Having only launched early last year they have been going from strength to strength, being both good quality and affordable. I've definitely become a massive Makeup Rev fan over the past few months, so I was more than excited to review their new radiant lights highlighters!!

Exhale, Breathe and Glow

Radiant lights are baked highlighter powders, which are available in three gorgeous shades called Exhale, Breathe and Glow...

'Exhale' is the lightest shade - I sometimes find that the lightest shade in highlighters lack in pigmentation, but this one pleasantly surprised me and is the most shimmery (yay!!). 'Breathe' is the middle shade - this one is my favorite in the range and I've been using it ALOT since I received it as it's very subtle it, complementing my foundation perfectly and gives me this nice radiant finish. Then last, but not least is 'Glow', which is the darkest shade, it acts almost like a bronzer against my skin tone but as you can see it still has the 'highlighting' quality like the others.

I also love the packaging, the powder itself has rings baked into them, then the boxes they come in are adorable (I love shiny things) plus each highlighter comes with a compact mirror in the lid - perfect for keeping in your hand bag so you can top up in the day, something I do on a regular basis.

So here's another 'must have' Makeup Revolution product that I absolutely love and costing only £5 each they are a steal. I can't wait to see what else they have up their sleeves especially with the release of their new 'Naked Chocolate' palette!

Review of: Revlon Lip Butter

I have heard so many good things about the Revlon lip butters, but never actually got round to trying them out for myself. Being only £5 in Superdrug at the moment I had to nag one on my recent trip - here are my first thoughts!

Over winter my lips seem to have been constantly dry, I've been using loads of products but none of which seem to have lasted in the long run. But since having starting to use the lip butter regularly my lips seem to be feeling soft again - even when I'm not wearing it!

I choose the shade '025 Peach Parfait' because it's faint yet still well pigmented giving you this natural looking pale peachy colour to your lips. And guess what else? It has this subtle golden shimmer whilst still remaining being creamy and smooth! Which was a definite winner in my books.

The packaging is so cute as well - it's always a bonus when makeup has cute packaging! The lid is a clear red-y colour and has this quilted style pattern on the sides. It also has the standard lipstick casing, but I'd class it as a tinted lip balm more than a lipstick.. Also because of how soft the product is you have to be careful about damaging it, I have a really bad habit of not twisting things all the way in!

They are definitely worth all the hype they get, I'm not much of a lipstick person myself but I love the subtle colour that it adds. I've been using it everyday, it's fast becoming my holy-grail product! I'm definitely going to purchase another shade or two to change it up a little!

10 Handy Websites For Bloggers

During my time as a blogger I have stumbled across many sites in order to help aid my blogging in some way or form, here are my favourites that I use quite regularly!

Picmonkey
First off is Picmonkey, I actually mentioned this in my 'budget photography tips' too. This website is perfect for collages, I use it quite regularly - I last used it in my review of 'Benefit's Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow' post, so I could show the swatches next to each other.

Dafont
This website is the mother of all font sites, the standard fonts on your computer can get a bit bleak after a while so hunting through this site for a fresh font is always refreshing. I regularly use 'Moon Flower' as I think it's a perfect, simple girly font (it's also what I used in the main photo of this post).

Technical: 
Google Analytics
This site goes hand in hand with blogger and gives you a much better insight into who views your blog, unique users and search queries. To install it on your blog you need to find your ID code.

To do so, click the 'admin' tab at the top then something similar to the above should appear. Then click 'tracking info' > 'tracking code'

When you have clicked 'tracking code' you'll get give a 'tracking ID' and a tracking code. If you're using blogger like me totally ignore the 'tracking code' tracking ID is what we're looking for so copy it!

Once you've copied your ID go to blogger dashboard > 'settings' > 'other' 

then at the bottom you'll see this, simply paste your code and save. Viola!

Both give very useful layout tips! I've used both many times in the past.

Layouts: 
Etsy
Layouts can get very pricy, but I paid very, very little for mine being only £7.50! I just tweeked it a heck of a lot. I reccomend setting a budget for yourself then using the money bandwith options so only layouts in your price range come up! There are a good few cheap layouts out there as well as the pricey ones.

This website is perfect for scheduling tweets! If you're like me, you may have other commitments like work or Uni and you can't always tweet when you want to this is the site for you.

When you have created an account you'll see a bar at the top with 'compose message' click it and type in the tweet you want to send. 

Next to the paper clip there is a calender option where you choose the date and time of your tweet, for me I chose the 3rd January at 1:45pm.

Then as long as you have added 'scheduled tweets' as a stream, you should see what tweets you have schduled and when they'll be posted - it's as simple as that!

Linkedin
This is a professional social networking site. I highly recommend this if you want to make blogging into a career one day! You can add other bloggers, brag about your success', post your posts on their so potential employers can see, etc. (I really need to post more - feel free to add me though https://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=295001925)

Pinterest
I love pinterest! (although I have like no followers wah) it's so great for inspiration, or just full on day dreaming!

justunfollow
I like to use this to clean up my twitter mainly, you can whitelist people to not awkwardly unfollow you didn't want to and you can follow inactive twitter accounts! When I first logged in I was still following people who hadn't used twitter in over a year!!!

Review of: Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow

This is a foundation I've wanted to try for what feels like forever. I've seen and heard so many mixed opinions on the product, some really love it then some really hate it, so my thoughts towards buying it have always been swayed... So I have finally decided to make my own judgement on it!

Benefit are well known for their remarkable packaging and designs, but this one takes a more minimalist approach which is just as stunning as the other products packaging.

The very first thing I noticed about this foundation is how light weight it is, it almost feels like you're not wearing any foundation at all as drugstore foundations are quite thick in comparison. But I do prefer the lightness, it gives you this dewy complexion as well as good coverage meaning you actually use less in the long run. (making it worth the money!)

I bought the foundation in the shade "champagne" and it's a lovely colour, it's slightly a bit darker than my skin but because of the lightweight formula it doesn't look like I've tangoed myself  and gives me a slight hint of colour to my face once it's been blended out.

This is actually my first full sized Benefit product! I've had quite a few minis that I've loved but I've finally got round to getting full sized and I must say I'm really impressed. Overall you get your moneys worth and more in both both quality and shelf life.
